At the Mountain Rose Inn, we are surrounded by history every day. Whether we are at the house, which has quite an interesting tale of its own, or the local towns around us - there is something to learn everywhere you go.
Stuart, Virginia is a town that takes a lot of pride in its Civil War history - its named after Confederate Major General JEB Stuart. Each year they do a Civil War Reenactment with a live history, featuring live period music, authentic Civil War Sutlers, food vendors, gift items and reenactments for both days! I'm excited to be able to see it -hopefully our guest schedule will allow us a chance to get away!
The reenactment will include 300 - 400 soldiers in uniform representing both the Confederate and Union armies with battle scenes including horses and large cannons! The event is sponsored by the Patrick County Tourism office in Stuart, VA and The Birthplace Trust will sell books, prints, mugs, T-shirts and more!
The Civil War Reenactment will begin at 9:00am on October 7th & 8th 2017 at the Birthplace of JEB Stuart in Ararat, Virginia. The price is $8.00 per person (12 and under are free). All proceeds will go towards preserving the Birthplace for years to come.
